As part of Dollar General’s efforts to serve customers and ensure product quality, the Company recently updated its Chemical Policy and expanded its Restricted Substance List (RSL). Additionally, the policy was expanded to include not only all private brand formulated products in Dollar General’s Home Cleaning, Beauty and Personal Care departments, but also all private brand formulated cleaning products in its Hardware and Automotive departments.
Dollar General’s chemical policy is designed to go beyond what is required by law and take additional steps to reduce or eliminate certain intentionally added chemicals of concern from products.
By fiscal year 2023, the Company plans to remove the following nineteen added chemicals from its formulated private brand items in Home Cleaning, Beauty and Personal Care, and from its private brand cleaning products in the Hardware and Automotive departments: 1-Bromopropane, Asbestos, 1.4-dioxane, Cyclic Aliphatic Bromides Cluster of flame retardants (HBCD), Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), Lead and Lead Compounds, Cadmium and Cadmium Compounds, Bisphenol A (BPA), Diethyl phthalate, Dibutyl phthalate, Tetrachloroethylene (PERC), Formaldehyde, Toluene, Nonylphenol Ethoxylates, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Trichloroethylene, Triclocarban and Triclosan.
Additionally, Dollar General is on target to meet its goal of eliminating the following intentionally added chemicals from its core formulated private brand Home Cleaning, and Beauty and Personal Care departments by December 31, 2022: Formaldehyde, Toluene, Nonylphenol Ethoxylates, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Trichloroethylene, Triclocarban and Triclosan. Dollar General also plans to become a signatory of and responder to the Chemical Footprint Project by the end of the Company’s 2022 fiscal year.
The Company continues to encourage all suppliers to register product formulations with the UL WERCSmart® system and to use safer alternatives to the chemicals listed in its RSL. Through this process, Dollar General expects to gain additional insight into the chemical composition of these products.
