Recognizing Achievement: A Spotlight on Diversity and Inclusion

June 06, 2018

At Dollar General, our mission of Serving Others includes everyone! We strive to build a culture that respects the dignity and differences in others to drive our success. Dollar General’s commitment to diversity and inclusion is supported through its actions, decisions and initiatives.

As part of that commitment, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) aim to provide information and education to help foster a more diverse and inclusive work environment. These groups focus on opportunities to satisfy customer needs and provide a stronger tie to the communities in which we live and serve.

"We are committed to respecting and embracing the differing experiences and perspectives we all bring to the table. This is a journey and the landscape is ever changing. With such a bright future ahead of us, we will continue to collaborate to reach new customers, promote an inclusive culture, and live our values of giving back,” said Todd Vasos, CEO of Dollar General.

To further recognize Dollar General’s diversity and inclusion initiatives, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation recently recognized Dollar General as one of the Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality in 2018 and the Hispanic Latino Professional Association named the Company to their 2017 and 2018 America’s Best Places to Work for Hispanics and Latinos list.

Also, the Nashville, Tennessee LGBT Chamber honored the Company’s director of diversity and inclusion, Bethany Mason, with the Ally Award at the Chamber’s annual awards ceremony. The Ally Award is presented to someone who does not identify as LGBT and has shown a commitment to helping the LGBT community. An ally uses their resources and centers of influence to provide opportunities for and empower their LGBT peers, employees, organizations and community.

Bethany was also named to the 2018 Top Corporate Diversity Executives by Black Enterprise magazine, an honor given to individuals who are champions of inclusion through creative initiatives to elevate diverse talent and solutions that promote more productive and employee-supportive companies.

Dollar General is excited to congratulate Bethany on these achievements and thanks her for being a champion of diversity and inclusion. To learn more about Dollar General’s diversity and inclusion initiatives including ERGs, please visit the Dollar General careers site here.
