Meet DGX

December 31, 2019

Among the hustle and bustle of busy downtown city streets now sits a new, convenient and trendy retail option.

Meet DGX.

Specially designed to meet the unique needs of customers living, working and visiting vibrant metropolitan city centers, DGX provides positive benefits to the areas it serves by providing an affordable retail option in a modern retail format.

DGX stores offer a smaller retail footprint with a curated assortment of grab-and-go salads and sandwiches, home cleaning supplies, an expanded selection of health and beauty products, home décor, electronics, seasonal products, pet supplies, candies and snacks, paper products and more—all at everyday low prices that Dollar General is known for.

Plus, select DGX stores offer an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables and coffee stations.

“We are excited for the opportunity to serve downtown communities and city-dwellers with the essentials they need in a convenient, easy-to-shop format through our DGX store,” said Dan Nieser, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and development. “We look forward to the opportunity to serve metropolitan customers in exciting downtown living environments with value and convenience on quality products.  Ultimately, we seek to help customers save money on the things they need so they have funds left to purchase the items they want.”

DGX was born from Dollar General’s continual and extensive customer research that revealed a millennial shopper on the Company’s customer segmentation for the very first time in 2016. That research solidified Dollar General’s understanding of how it serves a millennial customer and the first DGX concept store in Nashville, Tennessee was announced shortly thereafter. DGX stores now compliment the modern designs and metropolitan landscapes in downtown Nashville, Tennessee; Raleigh, North Carolina; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Cleveland, Ohio; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Omaha, Nebraska and Columbus, Ohio.

Of course, Dollar General is not new to concept stores.  In fact, the genesis of Dollar General itself began as a concept store in 1955 when a father-and-son duo ventured out of wholesaling to retail.  Their concept store opened in Springfield, Kentucky as Dollar General, and has continued to resonate with customers ever since.

As Dollar General looks to add 20 new DGX stores in FY 2020, it continues to provide an attractive exterior and impressive interior to downtown customers, all while providing the intersection of value and convenience for its customers.
