Dollar General Literacy Foundation Grant Applications Now Open

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation is now accepting grant applications for summer, family, youth and adult literacy programs online at www.dgliteracy.com.  

The need for literacy assistance isn't confined to a single age group or geographic location. That's why the Dollar General Literacy Foundation's grant programs help improve the lives of people of all ages in many different communities.
 

Adult Literacy Grants

Adult Literacy Grants award funding to nonprofit organizations that provide direct service to adults in need of literacy assistance. Organizations must provide help in one of the following instructional areas:
  • Adult Basic Education
  • GED or high school equivalency preparation
  • English Language Acquisition
Deadline to apply: February 23, 2017 (11:00 p.m. CST)
Grant Announcement: May 11, 2017
Maximum Grant Amount: $15,000

Family Literacy Grants

Family Literacy Grants provide funding to family literacy service providers. Organizations applying for funding must have the following three components:
  • Adult Education Instruction
  • Children's Education
  • Parent and Child Together Time (PACT)
Deadline to apply: February 23, 2017 (11:00 p.m. CST)
Grant Announcement: May 11, 2017
Maximum Grant Amount: $15,000

Summer Reading

Summer Reading Grants provide funding to local nonprofit organizations and libraries to help with the implementation or expansion of summer reading programs. Programs must target Pre-K through 12th grade students who are below grade level readers or readers with learning disabilities.
Deadline to apply: February 23, 2017 (11:00 p.m. CST)
Grant Announcement: May 11, 2017
Maximum Grant Amount: $3,000

Youth Literacy Grants

Youth Literacy Grants provide funding to schools, public libraries, and nonprofit organizations to help students who are below grade level or experiencing difficulty reading. Grant funding is provided to assist in the following areas:
  • Implementing new or expanding existing literacy programs
  • Purchasing new technology or equipment to support literacy initiatives
  • Purchasing books, materials or software for literacy programs
Deadline to apply: May 18, 2017 (11:00 p.m. CST)
Grant Announcement: September 7, 2017
Maximum Grant Amount: $4,000
