Dollar General Literacy Foundation Grant Application Cycle Opens

DGLF Grant Cycle Opens

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation is currently accepting grant applications for programs aimed at enhancing adult, family and summer literacy programs. Interested applicants may find eligibility information and apply by visiting dgliteracy.org through February 17, 2022.
 
“For nearly 30 years, programs supported by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation have helped individuals take their next steps towards a bright future,” said Denine Torr, executive director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. “Since 1993, the Foundation has awarded more than $203 million in grants to nonprofit organizations. We are proud to partner with schools, nonprofits and libraries to help students thrive and have a strong educational foundation.”
 
Schools, libraries and nonprofit organizations within a 15-mile radius of a Dollar General store, distribution center or the Store Support Center in Goodlettsville, Tennessee are eligible to apply. Recipients will be announced on May 12, 2022.
 
The Foundation will also accept applications for its youth literacy grant program from March 10 to May 19, 2022.
 
In fiscal year 2020, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation awarded more than $16.1 million in grants to programs impacting more than 1.4 million students. More than 1,800 schools, nonprofit organizations and libraries across the 46 states in which Dollar General operates received grants to help strengthen and enhance literacy programs, provide access to educational materials and technology, and give teachers the tools and support they need to better serve students.
 
Programs Considered for Funding
 
Adult Literacy Grants (Grant Applications Accepted January 10-Feburary 17, 2022)
Funding is awarded to organizations that provide direct services to adults in need of literacy assistance in one of the following areas:
  • Adult basic education
  • GED or high school equivalency preparation
  • English language acquisition
Family Literacy Grants (Grant Applications Accepted January 10-Feburary 17, 2022)
Funding is awarded to nonprofit organizations who support the whole family in literacy, providing:
  • Adult education instruction
  • Children’s education
  • Parent and Child Together Time (PACT)
Summer Reading Grants (Grant Applications Accepted January 10-Feburary 17, 2022)
Local nonprofit organizations, schools and libraries can receive funding to support the creation or expansion of summer reading programs that meet the following criteria:
  • Target pre-K to 12th grade students who are new readers
  • Target below grade level readers
  • Assist readers with learning disabilities
Youth Literacy Grants (Grant Applications Accepted March 10 – May 19, 2022)
Schools, public libraries and nonprofit organizations who help students that are below grade level or having trouble reading may apply with funding provided to assist in the following areas:
  • Implementing new or expanding existing literacy programs
  • Purchasing new technology or equipment to support literacy initiatives
  • Purchasing books, materials or software for literacy programs
