January 29, 2021

Dollar General is proud to announce that the Human Rights Campaign Foundation recognized the Company’s ongoing workplace inclusion efforts in support of LGBTQIA+ employees in its 2021 Corporate Equality Index.  Released yesterday, the Corporate Equality Index is the national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and benefits pertinent to LGBTQIA+ employees.

“On behalf of the entire Dollar General team, I would like to express our utmost appreciation and gratefulness to the Human Rights Campaign Foundation for this prestigious recognition of our ongoing efforts to support our LGBTQIA+ colleagues and allies,” said Dr. Johné Battle, Dollar General’s vice president of diversity and inclusion. “Today’s recognition further highlights our core value of respecting the dignity and differences of others and demonstrates the impact of our mission of Serving Others, which includes serving everyone. At Dollar General, we foster a work environment built on mutual trust and respect where each employee is encouraged and empowered to bring their authentic selves and unique perspectives to work each day.”

In keeping with our commitment to an inclusive culture, Dollar General’s EQUAL Employee Resource Group (ERG) is dedicated to our LGBTQIA+ team members and allies. Our ERGs work to leverage differences, promote awareness and build a more inclusive culture consistent with Dollar General’s mission and core values and further focus on opportunities to provide a stronger tie to the communities in which our employees live and serve.

About the Corporate Equality Index

Published annually since 2002, the Corporate Equality Index uses robust criteria to reflect best practices for LGBTQ inclusion and to drive companies to improve upon their commitment to the community. The criteria includes non-discrimination policies across business entities; equitable benefits for LGBTQ workers and their families; supporting an inclusive culture; and corporate social responsibility.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and queer people. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community. To read the full report, visit www.hrc.org/cei.
