Weathering the Storm

In the wake of recent devastation left by Louisiana flooding and Hurricane Matthew along the east coast, Dollar General employees came together to help restore stores and communities affected by the storm.
In Elberta, Alabama, nearly 200 miles away from the Louisiana flooding, store #8081 store manager Rebecca Crafton sprang into action in an effort to gather donations for local flood victims. With the help of six stores in the area, Rebecca was able to collect a total of $9,500 in donations for flood relief. The items were delivered to the Tangipahoa Sherriff’s department in early October.
“On behalf of the Elberta Police Department, we would like to express our appreciation for Rebecca Crafton and her staff at Dollar General in Elberta, Alabama,” said Stan DeVane, Elberta Police Department chief. “Her tireless and selfless efforts have been a tremendous help to the people and businesses of our community.”
Simultaneously, teams were coming together in South Carolina and surrounding states to aid stores damaged by Hurricane Matthew. Employees from four states joined the effort to restore and restock stores in the South Carolina region, some driving seven hours to help.
“I was extremely lucky to be a part of this effort,” said Laura Owens-Bailey, Dollar General district manager. “It makes me proud to be a part of the Dollar General family. Thank you to all that aided in this relief effort.”
Through these disaster relief efforts, Dollar General employees truly lived out the company’s mission of Serving Others.
