Supporting the Kids in Need Foundation in Louisiana

Oct 06, 2016

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation recently partnered with the Second Responder® program of the Kids in Need Foundation to provide school supplies to Louisiana students and teachers impacted by recent flooding. The partnership donated backpacks and teaching resources to three area schools, including Central Intermediate School.
“Dollar General was eager to partner with the Kids In Need Foundation Second Responder® program to aide local Louisiana schools,” said Karen Jones, Dollar General district manager. “Dollar General’s mission is Serving Others, and we are thrilled to be able to provide the necessary supplies needed by the schools at this time.”

Local Store Manager Marlon Gauthier and Jones were present to assist in delivering the backpacks to Central Intermediate on the first day of school.

"The Kids In Need Foundation's Second Responder® program recently provided nearly 8,000 students with school supplies in the Baton Rouge area who lost so much because of the flooding," said Dave Smith, executive director of Kids In Need, "and Dollar General was right there beside us. Dollar General donated teacher totes, filled with classroom supplies adding a new dimension to support of these schools. Dollar General is a true partner because they value education, which is the basis of the Kids In Need mission."
