Let the Good Times Roll with Mardi Gras Crafts

Celebrate Carnival beginning February 20 or Mardi Gras on February 25 with two fun and easy crafts from D.I.Y. @ DG that are sure to let the good times roll. These Mardi Gras-inspired crafts can help you properly the festive holiday whether looking to make a colorful and embellished mask or a tasty and equally bright sweet treat.  

DIY Mardi Gras Mask
Get creative when designing this sparkly purple, green and gold mask. Follow the design below or create your own!

What You’ll Need:
Crafter's Closet Project Knife

Step 1:
A) Download and print mask template. Cut out around the mask shape, leaving the other shapes for the following steps. Flip over mask and apply Spray Adhesive to the back. B) Adhere the shape to the purple Poster Board. C) Use the Craft Scissors to cut out around the shape. D) Remove the eye shapes with the Precision Knife and Cutting Mat.


Step 2:
A) Take the next larger shapes from the download and cut out around them. B) Apply Spray Adhesive to the back. C) Mount to the back of the green Glitter Paper. D) Cut out around the outside and inside shapes.

 

Step 3:
Using Spray Adhesive, mount the green glitter shapes to the appropriate sides of the purple mask.

 

Step 4:
A) Taking the two eye shapes from the download, flip over and cover the back with the gold Detail Glitter Tape. B) Cut the shapes out. C) Remove the inside eye shapes.

 

Step 5:
A) Apply Spray Adhesive to the back of the gold glitter eye decorations. B) Mount to the mask. C) Hot glue desired gems in place. D) Hot glue gold jingle bells to the points of the upper mask.

 

Step 6:
A) Take the purple Detail Glitter Tape and a Wooden Dowel, and wrap the tape around from top to bottom, leaving a gap in between. You may have to add some Hot Glue to the ends to secure in place. B) Add the gold Detail Glitter Tape in between the purple. Hot glue ends. C) Hot Glue dowel to the inside, left or right, of the mask.

 

 

Mardi Gras Cupcakes

Bring the Mardi Gras spirit to your kitchen this year with a tasty dessert that could be a perfect treat to share with friends and family.

 

What You’ll Need:

Step 1:
Mix together batter per directions or recipe. Separate batter into three equal amounts. Add green food dye until desired color is reached. Add red and blue food dye to get the purple batter. Add yellow drops and stir until the desired color is reached.

 

Step 2:
Separate the purple, green, and yellow Bright Baking Cups and place into the cupcake pan. Add a spoonful of each color to achieve a multicolored cupcake.

 

Step 3:
In a glass bowl, melt half of the White Chocolate Wafers, using the directions on the back of the bag. Add a few drops of green food dye and stir. If the chocolate begins to thicken, you can add a little bit of vegetable oil. Add green chocolate to a Mini Squeeze Bottle. Repeat these steps with yellow food dye.

 

 

Step 4:
Place the Downloadable Mask Template into the resealable bag. Begin to trace the mask shapes with the green white chocolate. Let sit or freeze until solid. Go back in with the yellow white chocolate for details. Add some of the pearl shaped sprinkles while the yellow chocolate is still soft. Let site or freeze to harden.

Step 5:
Set up the Decorating Bag per the directions in the box, using the closed star tip. Add the vanilla icing to the bag and begin to top each cupcake. Have fun decorating your cupcakes with the sprinkles and the festive chocolate masks!
