Success requires goal setting, hard work and motivation, all traits that Store Facilities Management Director Caleb Smith possesses. For the past seven years, Caleb has devoted his time to helping grow both the company and his DG colleagues. Acclaimed for his guidance in opening stores across the nation, Caleb was recently named Real Estate’s 10 under 40.

Awarded by Chain Store Age, the title is given to the top 10 real estate experts in the nation under the age of 40. Caleb was given the honor as a result of his work providing maintenance and environmental compliance to the 12,719 Dollar General stores, in addition to his efforts in giving back to the retail industry.

“I love working at Dollar General because of the challenges and opportunities it offers,” said Caleb. “With as many stores as we have and our aggressive growth plan, every day presents a new obstacle to overcome. I appreciate being pushed to be the best version of myself.”

Transitioning into his current position as the store facilities management director seven months ago, Caleb now operates a team that oversees store maintenance and repairs, environmental compliance, waste management and recycling. Caleb works to provide his team with new opportunities to grow, a valuable leadership trait.

“As important as it is to hire talented and creative team members, it is equally important to provide them with the tools to do something special,” said Caleb. “Give them the chance to finish the day and say ‘wow, look at all we accomplished.’”

Caleb contributes his success to his ability to break down goals so they seem more attainable, allowing him to reduce any feelings of being overwhelmed. He is motivated to excel in his position by all of the people who rely on him.

“Whether a store has recently experienced a major disaster or a toilet isn’t working correctly or the trash needs to be picked up, I know that people need my help,” he said. “I want to be great for them.”
