DG Celebrates International Women’s Day by Recognizing the Company’s Female-Led Finance Team

Dollar General’s people are its greatest strength, and we believe diverse minds and backgrounds are needed to drive success. As we approach International Women’s Day, DG is proud to celebrate its female colleagues who make up nearly 66% of its workforce and 75% of management* and is spotlighting the all-female leadership team at the helm of its finance department who help empower others at the Company.

KELLY DILTS
Kelly Dilts
In 2023, Kelly Dilts was named DG’s Chief Financial Officer after nearly four years with the Company. She says her natural leadership style and strong confidence stems from a reliable and diverse support system.

“For me, it’s my parents who never told me I couldn’t do something, the Girl Scout leader who fostered me as a young leader, my sixth-grade teacher who made me feel like I had a special spark and could achieve success, and my mentor I was fortunate enough to have had my whole career and helped pave the way for other women to succeed,” says Kelly.Ultimately, I believe we are an accumulation of their experiences and relationships, and I feel very lucky to have had those great people around me.  And now, I am privileged to be supported by this outstanding group of women.”

In her role at DG as the head of finance, she strives to be that person for others and ensures the interests and ideas of her team members are heard by the organization. One such way Kelly accomplishes this is by encouraging others to cultivate an empowering network of women, such as through DG's Women's Professional Network (WPN). DG's WPN employee resource group helps foster and advance members' personal and professional lives through connections, opportunities and experiences.

ANITA ELLIOTT
Anita Elliott
Anita Elliott joined the DG family in 2005 and has served as the Company’s Chief Accounting Officer since 2015. She and her team have made a name for themselves beyond accounting by listening intently and speaking up regularly. By doing so, they’ve established themselves as business partners who leverage their deep fiduciary expertise to contribute to DG’s success across the business.

“My advice, particularly for women, is to assume you have a seat at the table and voice your opinion when the opportunity arises,” says Anita. “You should learn to listen to colleagues at all levels of the organization, especially subject-matter experts, learn to plan ahead because all deadlines can be handled if projects are managed in small steps, and learn to communicate frequently to avoid surprises.”

Anita also shares her leadership and mentorship skills as an executive sponsor of the Women's Professional Network, providing strategic direction to support employees' careers, communities and culture. Her work has actively grown and strengthened the organization while providing more visibility for the women at the Company, including through formal mentorship programs like IGNITE, which help develop new female talent. Anita also serves on both the Dollar General Employee Assistance Foundation and Dollar General Literacy Foundation boards.

AMANDA MATHIS
Amanda Mathis
Amanda Mathis joined Dollar General as senior vice president of finance in January of 2024, bringing 20 years of experience. Amanda grew up in rural Tennessee where she was a devoted DG customer and was drawn to her new role and DG by the Company’s mission of Serving Others, commitment to diversity and the value DG brings to the communities it serves.

For Amanda, cultivating talent is the most rewarding part of her job.

“The most important thing a leader can do is foster the engagement, growth, and development of teammates, so that is something I prioritize,” Amanda shared. “I have always been blessed to have great mentors throughout my career, so it is important for me to be a mentor as well. I especially love being able to mentor and coach female talent in hopes that my past experiences and learnings can help break through barriers in their development journeys.”

BARB SPRINGER
Barb Springer
Barb Springer, vice president and treasurer, watched DG grow exponentially over the last 24+ years. The Company had 4,000 stores when she joined in 1999 and has grown to five times as many stores during her tenure. But DG’s growth within this period expands beyond store walls and into its employee base and culture.

“I am encouraged by the number of female leaders, especially in finance, at DG, which is a unique and inspiring characteristic,” says Barb.

Barb serves as a mentor to women, both informally and through programs like Develop 2 Lead that develop underrepresented talent throughout the organization. She also serves on the boards of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation which supports literacy programs for students of all ages in DG’s hometown communities and the Memorial Foundation which has a mission to improve the quality of life for individuals through support to non-profit organizations.

"Whether it be providing exposure, serving as confidants or sounding boards, or sharing experiences and providing different perspectives, I’ve learned that mentorship is definitely a two-way street as we each learn from the other,” says Barb.
