Here for What Matters During the Holidays
Nov 22, 2024
Reflecting the Company’s purpose-driven mission of Serving Others during the upcoming holidays, DG and its employees are making the season a little brighter in several of its hometown communities by providing funds and in-kind donations to national and local programs supporting families in need.
This includes:
· St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Now through December 15, Dollar General is collecting in-store monetary donations at the register to support St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s Thanks and Giving® campaign.
Tod B., a divisional vice president of store operations, has been a perennial champion of the St. Jude campaign at Dollar General during his nearly 20 years with the Company.
“With Dollar General’s vast store footprint, we have a unique opportunity to unite our communities and make a tangible difference for those in need, especially during the holidays,” shared Tod. “Since beginning as a store manager in Lebanon, Missouri in 2005, and as a leader, I feel personally compelled to encourage my teams to support this cause that spreads joy and hope to so many.”
Next month, Boyster and his team plan to join the Company’s corporate social responsibility and philanthropy team in visiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis to give away toys to patients and their families.
Since 2006, Dollar General and customers’ in-store donations have provided more than $34.5 million to support St. Jude’s life-saving childhood cancer research as the global leader in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other deadly diseases.
· Toy Drives
All of Dollar General’s 20,000+ stores are currently hosting toy drives, welcoming customers to donate items to benefit a local nonprofit or the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Each store manager chooses the toy drive recipient organization in their community.
This year, Dollar General also donated $100,000 to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation to further support its efforts. Since 2013, Dollar General has donated more than $1.1 million to the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation.
· Santa’s Workshop and Angel Tree Giving at DG’s Store Support Center
Dollar General’s Store Support Center (SSC) in Goodlettsville, Tennessee will host its annual Santa’s Workshop, which provides families in need with toys and gifts that they may otherwise go without this holiday season.
Additionally, SSC employees participate in the annual Angel Tree donation program, which provides items to local children and seniors.
· DG Kindness During the Holidays
For more than seven years, DG’s Regional Director of Operations Rod R. and District Manager of Operations Josh B. in Northern West Virginia have hosted Operation Cozy, a donation collection at regional DG stores to benefit West Virginia University (WVU) Medicine Children’s Hospital patients, making their stays cozier and a little more like home. This past year, Operation Cozy donated more than 1,100 blankets, toys, drinking cups and pajamas to families in need. The team is currently collecting donations from employees and customers and plans to deliver 2024 donations in December.
“Each year, we receive blankets and other comfort items from a special Dollar General team of employees. Through their kindness, these gifts of blankets, pajamas and toys bring comfort and smiles to faces of our patients and their families. We are so grateful for them.” shared Erin Blake, WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital’s director of community relations and giving.
Since beginning Operation Cozy in 2017, DG employees have collected more than 20,000 products to donate. To honor the team’s dedication to the Company’s mission of Serving Others, DG Kindness recently awarded $1,000 to WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital to further give back to the hospital’s patients and their families.
