Dollar General Ups the Ante for After-Christmas Shoppers

Retailer Launches Largest Clearance Sale in Its History on Dec. 26
GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn., Dec 22, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- A few dollars will go a long way at Dollar General (NYSE: DG). Now, they'll even go farther.
The company will kick off its biggest seasonal clearance sale ever on December 26 with plans for deep discounts to sell through most seasonal merchandise in all stores - a first in the company's history.
The sale kicks off the inventory sell-off the company announced in November as a part of Dollar General's move away from its traditional packaway strategy. Previously, the company would keep unsold seasonal for later sale. No more. Starting this holiday season, the company's stores will take markdowns to sell off most seasonal merchandise.
That's good news for shoppers eager to get a head start on next year's holiday shopping.
Most seasonal items including gifts, Christmas decorations, wrapping paper and accessories will be marked down until sold.
Look for more details on the sale in the company's advertising circular and other advertising - including Dollar General's first network TV commercial.
