Dollar General Takes the Wheel with Racing Sponsorship; New Busch Series Car to be Driven by Former Champ Randy LaJoie

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 21, 2005--Dollar General (NYSE:DG) today announced that it is sponsoring race car #34 in the NASCAR Busch Series, which begins in Daytona, Florida on February 19, 2005.
Former Busch Series Champion Randy LaJoie will drive the car, owned by Frank Cicci Racing with Jim Kelly, the National Football League Hall of Fame inductee. LaJoie has 15 Busch event victories in his career.
"Dollar General's #34 Chevrolet will carry our familiar yellow and black colors and corporate logo, long recognized by savvy shoppers as a symbol of value, across the country," said David Perdue, CEO. "NASCAR is one of the fastest-growing spectator sports in the country, and our shoppers are among their growing fan base."
The sponsorship is the first major sports sponsorship for the retailer, and offers exposure of the Dollar General brand to millions of race fans. Dollar General's car will have a number of Dollar General's vendor partners as co-sponsors, including Polaroid Alkaline Batteries, Clorox, Unilever, and Gillette.
