Dollar General surprises five Mobile, Alabama schools with $60,000 in donations and gift cards

Dec 13, 2016

On Friday, December 9, Dollar General provided five schools in Mobile, Alabama with 10,000 reasons to celebrate the holidays early!

Five Mobile schools thought the company was coming to present a small collection of books to add to their library as part of the company’s upcoming sponsorship of the Dollar General Bowl and the company’s mission of Serving Others.
Dollar General had other plans when representatives arrived at each school carrying a gift bag with very special gifts inside.  School leaders were presented with a collection of new Bendon books to add to their library and tickets to the upcoming Dollar General Bowl in Mobile, Alabama on December 23.

The surprises didn't stop there!

Dollar General then presented each school principal with a Dollar General gift card for each teacher to help purchase any needed classroom essentials for the second half of the academic year.  Then, they were presented with a black box and were elated to find a check for $10,000 included!

School administrators may use the surprise funds at their discretion to best achieve this goal by purchasing books, technology programs, computers and/or other educational supplies or resources. Dollar General’s community outreach centers around literacy and education.
Recipient schools include:
  • Orchard Elementary School
  • Davidson High School
  • Kate Shepard Elementary School
  • Regional School for the Deaf and Blind
