Dollar General Supports Mobile, Alabama Community Ahead of Dollar General Bowl
Nov 20, 2017
As part of Dollar General’s title sponsorship of the Dollar General Bowl on December 23 in Mobile, Alabama, Dollar General was recently in the Port City as part of its mission of Serving Others.
First, company representatives attended the Bowl’s Community Awards Banquet on Wednesday, November 15, 2017, at the Mobile Marriott. The evening honored students’ art contest and scholarship recipients as part of the Dollar General Bowl.
Scholarship recipients were selected based on students’ integrity, leadership skills, community service and concern for others. Dollar General presented three area students with college scholarships as part of its mission and community focus on literacy and education.
Students from Mobile and Baldwin County schools were also invited to participate in the Dollar General Bowl Art Contest for the opportunity to earn prizes for themselves and their school’s art program, along with the chance to have their art selected as the Dollar General Bowl program cover artwork.
More than 200 entries were submitted for this year’s “Music in Mobile” themed event, and the winners were chosen by judges selected from the Eastern Shore Art Center and the Mobile Museum of Art. Dollar General presented gift cards to the first, second and third place winners in all three age categories.
Congratulations to all of the evening’s winners!
The next morning, representatives surprised two local elementary schools and three nonprofit organizations with early holiday gifts. The five recipients received Dollar General gift cards to purchase any needed items coming into the holiday season and complimentary Dollar General Bowl tickets. Then, the organizations were elated and surprised to receive a $2,000 donation to be used toward supporting their respective missions.
