Dollar General Responds to Middle Tennessee Tornadoes

Mar 05, 2020

At Dollar General, our mission of Serving Others remains strong and steadfastly integrated into the fabric of our business and in each of the communities we proudly call home.

During the overnight hours of March 3, devastating storms and tornadoes severely damaged areas of Nashville, Tennessee and surrounding counties.   With Dollar General’s Store Support Center located just north of Music City, our thoughts are with all of our employees, neighbors and community partners impacted by the destruction throughout middle Tennessee.

For our employees impacted, applications for assistance from the Employee Assistance Foundation are available by emailing DGEAF@dollargeneral.com. The Dollar General Employee Assistance Foundation provides financial assistance to members of the Dollar General family who experience a loss due to a natural disaster, fire or bereavement.

Dollar General is also donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross to aid with comprehensive middle Tennessee recovery efforts and plans to provide product donations to relief efforts. Customers can join us in supporting the relief efforts by donating to the American Red Cross at one of Dollar General’s more than 16,000 store locations through March 18.

Schools impacted by the storms are encouraged to apply for Beyond Words grants, which are funded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and administered in partnership with the American Libraries Association. The Beyond Words grant program was established in 2006 to provide funding to school libraries affected by disasters. Funds help schools rebuild, reestablish and/or expand library media programs.  To date, the program has awarded over $2.4 million and directly affected more than 112,000 students in 29 states.

In keeping with our mission and our 80-year history of serving our customers and communities, Dollar General will continue to monitor the damage and needs of the Middle Tennessee recovery efforts and provide support for employees and neighbors in need.
