Dollar General Recognizes Black History Month

Feb 01, 2024

At Dollar General, we believe in our core values of respecting the dignity and differences of others, as well as celebrating success and recognizing the contribution of others. We celebrate these values every day, and as Black History Month begins, we are proud to recognize and reflect on the accomplishments and contributions made by African Americans throughout our nation’s history.

African American Employee Resource Group Celebrations

Dollar General’s African American Employee Resource Group (AAERG)   is focused on impacting and enhancing the diversity of DG’s culture through community outreach, recruitment, development and education. To commemorate Black History Month celebrations, our AAERG reflects on and honors Dollar General’s mission of Serving Others by hosting several Days of Service that include volunteer opportunities for employees to give back in their communities throughout February.

“Black History Month provides an opportunity for our AAERG, all DG employees and our collective communities to reflect on and celebrate the significant achievements by African Americans,” shared Shareeka Meadows, AAERG’s co-executive sponsor and Dollar General’s vice president of merchandising. “We look forward to highlighting our core values and reflecting the Company’s commitment to a culture where all employees feel a sense of belonging.”

In addition to special events with guest speakers, employees will serve metro Nashville through volunteer opportunities at the Nashville Diaper ConnectionThe Black Book Project and FiftyForward. Additionally, the AAERG will offer employees a virtual training, development and leadership event.
