Progressive Grocer Honors Retailers’ Outstanding Work To Address Issues

Dollar General was recently recognized as an Impact Award winner by Progressive Grocer in the Food Security / Nutritional Leadership category. With nearly 20,000 locations in 48 states and approximately 80% of stores in communities of 20,000 or fewer people, the retailer serves underserved communities, many of which others cannot or will not serve. Each DG store offers the components of a healthier diet, including assorted dairy items, frozen and canned vegetables and fruits, proteins, grains and more.

According to Progressive Grocer, the Impact Awards highlight the efforts in the grocery industry to address varied issues through far-reaching actions that continue to grow in demand by consumers.

In 2021, the Company announced an operational partnership with Feeding America, which once deployed chain-wide aims to nearly doubled the number of stores in which Feeding America services. The partnership also provides in-kind food donations, contributing more than 22 million meals in the past three years and $3 million in corporate donations.

In addition to these efforts, Dollar General has added produce to more than 4,400 stores with plans to expand the offering to approximately 10,000 stores over the next several years. Dollar General’s produce set provides the top 20 items typically sold in traditional grocery stores and covers approximately 80 percent of produce categories.
