Dollar General Receives Globee Business Excellence Award for COVID-19 Response

Dollar General’s mission of Serving Others was further exhibited amid the COVID-19 pandemic as the health and safety of employees, customers and local communities remained a top priority.
Workforce initiatives to serve employees included four hours of regular pay for hourly frontline employees receiving their COVID complete vaccination, creation of new career opportunities, telehealth program enrollment opportunities, approximately $169 million in appreciation bonuses to eligible employees, paid sick leave and a $5.25 million donation to the Dollar General Employee Assistance Foundation.
The Company took its responsibility to serve neighbors and communities seriously, implementing several proactive and preventative measures including enhanced cleaning protocols, the installation of approximately 40,000 plexiglass shields, distribution of PPE and additional hand sanitizer. DG was also one of the first essential businesses to announce senior hours and further enhanced customers’ shopping experiences by expanding DG Pickup functionalities so customers could shop on the DG app and pick up orders in store.
In communities, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation provided a $2 million donation to Save the Children’s COVID-19 response efforts across rural America to help ensure children continue to learn and have access to nutritious foods.
Additionally, Dollar General continues to have constructive conversations with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), private companies and federal, state and local entities on ways the Company can support the nation’s COVID-19 testing and vaccine efforts.
The Company’s COVID-19 response efforts were recognized in 2020 by Forbes magazine, which named Dollar General among its top 25 corporate responders to the COVID-19 pandemic, and are reflected in a Harris Poll that outlines the essential role DG stores are playing.
