Dollar General Plans Expansion of Ardmore Distribution Center

January 27, 2004

Expansion Expected to Create Approximately 100 New Jobs in 2004

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn., Jan 27, 2004 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Dollar General Corporation (NYSE: DG) announced today that it intends to begin construction this month to expand its distribution center in Ardmore, Oklahoma. The expansion is expected to generate approximately 100 new jobs. The construction at the distribution center located at 401 General Drive in the Ardmore Industrial Airpark, is scheduled to be complete by the fourth quarter of 2004.

"Since its opening in 1995, the Ardmore Distribution Center and its employees have been instrumental in our ability to efficiently serve our stores in the mid- and southwest," said Vice President of Distribution Jeff Sims, in making the announcement. "Dollar General opened 673 new stores in the 2003 fiscal year and announced plans to open 675 more in 2004. At our current rate of growth, we must have a solid distribution network in place to support our chain of stores. This expansion, along with the conversion from a single to a dual sortation system and the additional employees, will expand our capacity to serve these future stores. The Ardmore community has been consistent in its strong support of Dollar General, and we look forward to that level of support continuing in the coming years."

"We are excited about the opportunity to bring these additional jobs to the Ardmore community," said Riley Seals, Ardmore Distribution Center manager. "Our success with this distribution center is due in great part to the quality of employees we have here and their dedication to our company. Thanks to the quality employees, we expect no interruption in service to the stores our distribution center currently supports."
