Dollar General Opens 61 Stores in July; 400 Stores Opened so Far in Current Fiscal Year

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn., Aug 7, 2003 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Dollar General (NYSE: DG) reports opening 61 stores in the four-week period ended August 1, 2003. In the first six months of the current fiscal year, the Company has opened 400 stores. With these additional stores, as of August 1, 2003, the Company operated 6,479 stores.

The 61 newest store locations include four in Alabama; two in Arkansas; five in Florida; seven in Georgia; one in Illinois; one in Kentucky; four in Louisiana; two in Michigan; three in Mississippi; six in Missouri; four in New York; six in North Carolina; two in Ohio; two in Oklahoma; four in Pennsylvania; two in South Carolina; two in Tennessee; one in Texas; one in Virginia; and two in West Virginia.
