Dollar General Names Susan S. Lanigan Vice President, General Counsel, Corporate Secretary

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn., Jul 30, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- Dollar General Corporation (NYSE: DG) announces the appointment of Susan S. Lanigan as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary.

Chairman and CEO Cal Turner made the announcement saying, "Susan comes with great academic, corporate and legal credentials, and as a senior management talent, she brings a significant legal perspective to all decision making."

Prior to joining Dollar General, Lanigan served as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary to the board at Zale Corporation, headquartered in Irving, Texas. Lanigan, age 40, received her undergraduate and juris doctorate degrees from the University of Georgia and the University of Georgia School of Law, respectively.

During her six years with Zale, Lanigan held various positions, including associate general counsel before being promoted to vice president in 1997. Prior to that, she held legal positions with both Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., and Troutman Sanders. Lanigan replaces Larry Wilcher who retired as general counsel and corporate secretary in May.
