Dollar General Launches “Our Pets. Our Heroes.” Essay Contest
GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (February 27, 2012) – Dollar General is celebrating pets and their owners with the “Our Pets. Our Heroes.” essay contest. The contest, which begins February 27 and ends on March 25, 2012, will award $5,000 grand prizes to four essay writers.
“Pets are an important part of our customers’ lives,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s chief merchandising officer. “We’re happy to offer pet lovers the opportunity to share their stories of special pets through the essay contest.”
Entries for the “Our Pets. Our Heroes.” essay contest will be accepted in four categories, which are:
- Everyday Heroes – Stories about pets that have special qualities that make them heroes in their owner’s eyes.
- Community Heroes – Stories about animals/pets that help to make their communities better, safer and more manageable.
- Heroic Acts – Stories about animals/pets that have committed a heroic act that helped to save or improve someone's life.
- Heroes To Pets – Stories about extraordinary people who devote their time to improving animal welfare.

www.dollargeneral.com. Participants can submit an essay with a minimum of 25 words and a maximum of 250 words that falls into one of the four categories.
A grand prize winner in each category will receive $5,000. In addition, four $1,000 first prizes will be awarded and four $250 second prizes.
No purchase necessary to enter or win. A purchase will not increase your chance of winning the essay contest. The essay contest is sponsored by Dollar General. Supporting partners include Nestle Purina, Mars Petcare US, Del Monte, Ainsworth Pet Nutrition and Sergeants Pet Care.
