Dollar General Honors Our Heroes for Memorial Day

May 24, 2019

Dollar General is proud to continue to honor our heroes this Memorial Day. Dollar General is a longstanding supporter of the military community through initiatives including exclusive discounts to active military, veterans and their immediate family members, outreach with the military communities through its military employee resource group, founding of the Paychecks for Patriots program, which supports service members’ transition to civilian life through meaningful employment opportunities, and more

As friends and family gather this Memorial Day, Dollar General joins them in recognizing our military communities and their sacrifices.  If you plan on participating in Memorial Day events, here are a few local and national opportunities:

  • Attend or walk in a Memorial Day parade
  • Place a flag or flowers on the grave of a fallen soldier
  • Thank a veteran or current military service member
  • Fly the American flag at half staff until noon
  • Donate or volunteer for an organization that supports families of fallen soldiers
  • Pause for the National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m. local time.
In addition to paying respect to our troops, Memorial Day weekend can be a time to gather with family and friends to appreciate the day. A popular way to recognize Memorial Day is by hosting a cookout or barbecue. From sides to drinks, discover recipes with Dollar General Easy Meals. Easy go-to recipes like these barbecue bacon cheeseburgers or marinated shrimp can be made in 30 minutes or less, so you can spend more quality time with your guests and participating in Memorial Day events.
