Donation Part of Company’s One-Year Anniversary Celebration of San Antonio DG Fresh Facility

To help celebrate Dollar General’s one-year anniversary of its San Antonio DG Fresh cold storage facility, the Company illustrated its mission of Serving Others with a $10,000 donation to Walzem Elementary School.

“In the true spirit of Serving Others, we are pleased to celebrate the San Antonio DG Fresh facility’s first anniversary by giving back to the community we proudly call home,” said Denine Torr, Dollar General’s vice president of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy. “At the heart of our philanthropic efforts is our commitment to literacy and education. As we work to strengthen educational programs and increase access to high-quality instruction for all students, we are happy to invest in Walzem Elementary’s efforts to help students grow and thrive.”

Walzem Elementary principal Liz Washington and staff administrators were on hand to receive the donation, which aims to help improve literacy and education goals through the purchase of books, technology programs, computers and/or educational supplies or resources. Including today’s contribution, the Company has invested more than $620,000 in the San Antonio community since 2015 through corporate giving and the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.

Dollar General was excited to celebrate the San Antonio’s DG Fresh facility’s one-year anniversary after grand opening festivities were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. San Antonio DG Fresh Facility opened in June 2020 and currently employs approximately 200 team members. The facility also adds to the Company’s ambient distribution center that opened in 2016 and the presence of DG’s Private Fleet network.

Today, Dollar General proudly employs approximately 14,650 Texans through its store, distribution and private fleet presence in the state.

The Company’s DG Fresh facilities support the Company’s strategic, multi-phased shift to self-distribution of frozen and refrigerated products such as dairy, deli and frozen products. As Dollar General works to build the infrastructure to better support customers, the Company is investing in communities across the country, creating a positive economic impact and creating new career opportunities. Throughout the country, Dollar General currently operates 27 dry and DG Fresh distribution centers.
