Sep 16, 2024

Dollar General is proud to recognize and celebrate National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, which runs through Saturday, September 21, 2024, by spotlighting DG Private Fleet employees and partner drivers for their dedication to serving DG customers.

“National Truck Driver Appreciation Week helps spotlight our DG Private Fleet and partner drivers’ contributions to serving our stores, customers and communities across the country each day,” shared Rod West, Dollar General’s executive vice president of global supply chain. “We are grateful and thankful for their important work, which helps ensure American families across the country have the products they rely on us to provide in their local stores.”

Recognizing DG Private Fleet Employees
In honor of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, Dollar General is highlighting several DG Fleet employees including:

Women in Trucking: Meshunn S.

Meshunn has been a DG Private Fleet driver for approximately three years. She's appreciative of the inclusive camaraderie among all drivers, especially when it comes to backing up the truck and trailer, and she enjoys hearing words of encouragement from customers and fellow store employees for her driving skills. These positive interactions, along with the thrill of overcoming challenges and defying stereotypes, make her career particularly fulfilling.

Meshunn is also proud to be one of the first DG Road Team members. This opportunity has significantly enhanced her role, providing increased visibility within Fleet Leadership, a deeper understanding of DG's operations and invaluable insights into the challenges and rewards faced by drivers across the network. This experience has helped solidify her commitment to DG as she feels valued, recognized and empowered to contribute to the company's success.

Honoring DG Veterans: Alan G.

Pottsville, Pennsylvania driver Alan G. brings 20 years on the road and a heart for service to Dollar General’s Private Fleet. Alan previously served as an Army infantryman, rising to the rank of Staff Sergeant, and included deployments to Haiti and Somalia. His team describes him as a “wonderful driver with an amazing and positive personality.”

DG’s Private Fleet is proud to have a strong employee veteran and military presence.  Today, more than 10 percent of our dedicated private fleet drivers, including Alan G., are veterans who bring a wealth of experience and a strong sense of service, qualities from their military service.

Grow with DG Private Fleet: Billy I. and Racquel T.

Billy I. (pictured left) and Racquel T. (pictured right) are among many DG Private Fleet drivers who advanced into leadership roles.

Billy was one of Dollar General’s first private fleet drivers after serving 10 years in the Air Force's Logistics Readiness Squadron. He quickly progressed through several advancing roles and has been promoted to fleet supervisor, fleet safety supervisor, training manager, and most recently to San Antonio traditional fleet manager in late 2023.

Racquel has more than four years of DG Private Fleet experience alongside four years as an Army Transportation Specialist (E-4). In 2023, she began serving as a transportation operations center support specialist, assisting drivers on the road. This year, she was promoted again to San Antonio fleet supervisor.

DG Commercial Drivers License Internal Growth: Dennis C.

In 2022, Dennis C. explored various roles within the Pottsville, Pennsylvania DG Fresh distribution center to grow and advance his career. While he previously had not considered a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) career, he participated in and completed DG’s CDL training program. Today, Dennis is a valued trainer guiding new team members. He enjoys supporting his family, who can share the journey with him through DG’s Rider Program.*

DG employees can participate in a Company-paid Class A Commercial Drivers’ License (CDL) training program, which further demonstrates Dollar General’s commitment to employees’ growth and development.  Currently, approximately 14 percent of the Company’s growing DG Private Fleet team began their career at Dollar General in a store or distribution center.

* Dollar General's Rider Program allows DG Private Fleet drivers to have a no-cost rider for passengers age 18 and older.

DG Private Fleet Road Team Recognitions:

Garrison M. is a Road Team driver from the DG Fresh facility in Montgomery, Alabama.  DG’s Road Team is an exclusive recognition for DG Private Fleet drivers. He has been with Dollar General for two years, and before joining the company, he built a strong foundation in leadership in restaurant management. He finds his current role incredibly rewarding, as it helps make a positive impact on rural communities.

As a Road Team member, Garrison has effectively communicated driver feedback. He appreciates the opportunity to collaborate with leadership to bring positive changes and improve the overall driver experience, viewing the opportunity as a crucial link to share valuable insights into daily operations.
