Dollar General Celebrates Amsterdam, NY Distribution Center’s One-Year Anniversary

Mission of Serving Others Illustrated Through Donation to School District
Dollar General celebrated the one-year anniversary of their 17th traditional distribution center by illustrating its mission of Serving Others and presenting a surprise $10,000 donation to the Greater Amsterdam School District Superintendent Richard Ruberti.
“As we celebrate the one-year anniversary of our Amsterdam distribution center, we are proud to support the local school district’s efforts to empower and uplift teachers and students,” said Denine Torr, Dollar General’s vice president of social responsibility and philanthropy. “Education has the ability to level the playing fields in life and open the doorway to increased opportunities. We are thrilled to invest in educational programs in Montgomery County and help the district as they position students for success.”
The state-of-the-art, 750,000 square foot Amsterdam facility opened in summer 2020 and plans to support more than 800 Dollar General stores and employ more than 400 individuals at full capacity.
As Dollar General’s first distribution center in New York, the community of Amsterdam was selected, in part, for its convenient location to Interstate 90, its proximity to Dollar General stores throughout the northeast, Montgomery County’s local business environment, the quality workforce in the area and the availability of local and state economic incentives, among numerous other considerations.
Today, the Company proudly employs more than 5,000 New Yorkers through more than 530 store locations, the Amsterdam distribution center and DG’s Private Fleet network.
Dollar General’s additional traditional distribution centers are located in Alachua, Florida; Ardmore, Oklahoma; Bessemer, Alabama; Bethel, Pennsylvania; Fulton, Missouri; Indianola, Mississippi; Jackson, Georgia; Janesville, Wisconsin; Jonesville, South Carolina; Lebec, California; Longview, Texas; Marion, Indiana; San Antonio, Texas; Scottsville, Kentucky; South Boston, Virginia; Walton, Kentucky; and Zanesville, Ohio.
