Discount retailer begins hiring this week
GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn. (BUSINESS WIRE), January 03, 2012 - Discount retailer Dollar General (NYSE: DG) is creating more than 1,300 jobs in Southern and Central California with the opening of 50 new stores and a distribution center in 2012. Hiring begins this week in Southern California.
Known for its convenient-sized stores and low prices on basic household needs, Dollar General reinforces its distinction as one of the nation’s fastest-growing retailers by creating a coast-to-coast presence for the first time. Dollar General operates more retail stores than any retailer with nearly 10,000 stores. California will be Dollar General’s 39th state.
“California presents an extraordinary opportunity for Dollar General to fulfill its mission of serving others by delivering convenience and value,” said Rick Dreiling, chairman and CEO. “Our plans bring new opportunities for Californians, including hundreds of new jobs. For those seeking to grow with a fast-paced Fortune 200 company, Dollar General is the place to be. We look forward to being a part of this great state and adding Californians to the Dollar General family.”
The California jobs are part of the more than 6,000 jobs the company plans to create in 2012. The discount retailer has job opportunities available at all levels, including retail, field, distribution center management and general warehouse positions. More hiring is expected as Dollar General expands in California.
Dollar General offers competitive wages and benefits for employees and has been recognized for its employment of veterans and service members.
The projected jobs follow on the heels of three years of positive job growth for the company. Including 2012, the company will have created more than 21,000 new jobs since 2009.
Dollar General built its success by focusing on delivering everyday household needs, food and basic apparel in convenient, neighborhood-size stores. Dollar General plans to serve California shoppers with stores in suburban, rural and metropolitan communities.
