Dollar General Bowl Week!

On Friday, December 23, 2016, Ohio University and Troy University took to the field at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Alabama to play the inaugural Dollar General Bowl!  Leading up and during Dollar General Bowl week, the company took part in numerous events throughout the city.

December 9, 2016
Dollar General visited five Mobile, Alabama schools and had several big surprises in hand!  The schools thought the company was coming to present a small collection of books to add to their library as part of the company’s upcoming sponsorship of the Dollar General Bowl and the company’s mission of Serving Others. They were elated with more surprises including a $10,000 donation, gift cards for every teacher to use in Dollar General stores to purchase needed supplies, Dollar General Bowl game tickets and a collection of Bendon books to add to their library.

Dollar General joined players from Ohio University and Troy University at the University of South Alabama's Children's and Women's Hospital and Dollar General Bowl team members.  Patients loved meeting and getting to know the players who gave them Dollar General Bowl teddy bear and a gift bag from Dollar General.

Dr. Pepper Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson's Luncheon
Dollar General team members attended the Dr. Pepper Mayor's Luncheon featuring guest speaker Steve Spurrier.  Dollar General's executive vice president of store operations, Jeff Owen, shared the company's excitement to be part of the Mobile community for Dollar General Bowl week and to share the story of the inception of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.  He also presented Stephanie Otalora, a senior at Murphy High School in Mobile, with a Dollar General scholarship to support her education goals.


Dollar General Bowl Mardi Gras Parade
As the birthplace of Mardi Gras, Mobile, Alabama knows how to put on a Mardi Gras parade!  Dollar General team members participated in the parade on Thursday evening.
