Honor recognizes the Company’s continued support of the National Guard and Reserve
Last week, the Tennessee Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) presented Dollar General with their prestigious Extraordinary Employer Support Award at their annual awards banquet in Franklin, Tennessee. The award was created to recognize sustained employer support of the National Guard and Reserve service, and this is the second award presented to Dollar General after being recognized with the honor in 2017.
“We are grateful to receive the ESGR’s Extraordinary Employer Support Award and humbled for their recognition of our ongoing support of the military and veteran communities,” said Kathy Reardon, Dollar General’s executive vice president and chief people officer. “At Dollar General, we’re proud to support all those who have served and continue to serve our country. Through our mission of Serving Others, we are proud to recognize, support and serve our military community in a number of ways including hiring veterans into our DG family, through our SERVE military employee resource group and providing discounts to our military families, among others.”
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the Tennessee Committee for ESGR recognized Dollar General Corporation alongside 11 other Tennessee companies and organizations that have received the Freedom Award since its founding in 1996. Dollar General was awarded with the Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award, the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their outstanding support of employees serving in the Guard and Reserve, in 2010.
Dollar General’s long-standing history of supporting our nation’s military also includes being a founding partner of the Paychecks for Patriots program, which supports service members’ transition to civilian life through meaningful employment opportunities, and the Company’s proud partnership with United Through Reading, helping to ensure children do not have to miss bedtime stories because their family member is away on military service.
