Dollar General today announced a new partnership with Workforce Edge to offer debt-free degree and education options to employees and their immediate family members. The announcement further demonstrates the Company’s longstanding commitment to provide growth, education and development opportunities to its 164,000+ employees.
“Dollar General remains devoted to building a pathway to education and career growth for our employees through world class training, innovative development programs and education advancement opportunities,” said Kathy Reardon, Dollar General’s executive vice president and chief people officer. “For more than 80 years, Dollar General has maintained a clear focus on our mission of Serving Others, and we proudly support that mission by providing robust opportunities to develop each employees’ talents and enhance their individual career growth.”
Workforce Edge Partnership
Through the partnership with Workforce Edge, Dollar General will provide fully-funded degree options through Strayer and Capella Universities, as well as access to online courses through Sophia Learning for employee’s immediate family members.
As outlined in one of Dollar General’s four operating priorities, the Company is committed to investing in its diverse teams through development, empowerment and inclusion. The partnership aims to aid employees in pursuing their educational goals and is the latest addition to the Company’s employee education programs. Dollar General’s full-time employees may utilize a yearly tuition assistance allocation through Workforce Edge to fund completing or starting a new degree program at a higher education institution of their choice.
In addition to increased degree options and tuition assistance for full-time employees, all Dollar General employees and their immediate family members will have access to Sophia Learning, an online, on-demand self-paced learning platform. This will provide general education courses to help members kick-start the education journey and pursue professional development.
Workforce Edge is a complete employee education management platform powered by Strategic Education, Inc. that will serve as a one-stop shop portal for full-time employees to receive affordable degrees and reimbursement for eligible educational expenses.
Additional Tuition Assistance Programs
The Workforce Edge partnership will add to the Company’s already robust opportunities for educational support. Currently, full-time employees may receive up to $4,000 per calendar year to obtain reimbursement of approved programs at select universities for tuition in their associate’s or bachelor’s degree coursework, books, fees, certifications, or certificate programs.
Employees may also be eligible for additional tuition discounts and other savings at hundreds of university partners. The program provides schools with both on campus and online courses including American University, Duke University Science and Society, Florida Institute of Technology, Northwestern University, Syracuse University, Vanderbilt University Peabody College and many more.
Employees may also take advantage of the Turner Family Scholarship Fund, which was created in 1999 to mark the 60th anniversary of Dollar General’s founding and to honor co-founder Cal Turner Sr.’s four children. All full-time and part-time employees who have served for one year and full-time employees’ children are eligible to receive a scholarship for any course work relating to the personal development of the applicant. This may include coursework striving towards a GED, adult basic education, or personal development, which can be completed at community college, vocational school, or four-year university.
