Dollar General and Suave Offer Students Scholarships Through Essay Contest; More Than $300,000 in Scholarships and Other Prizes to Be Awarded

GOODLETTSVILLE, Tenn., Jun 14, 2006 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Students can get a head start on financing their college education with a unique scholarship essay contest offered by Dollar General (NYSE: DG) and Suave. A 100-word essay on what education means to them and a receipt from Dollar General for the purchase of four Suave products are all students need to enter to win a portion of the $300,000 available in scholarships and other prizes.

"Dollar General has been a longtime supporter of education for people of all ages," said David Perdue, Dollar General's chairman and CEO. "Education can truly change one's life and we are excited about partnering with Suave to help children pursue a brighter future through higher education."

The contest is open to students ages 5 - 18. To enter, students must prepare a 100-word essay about what education means to them and submit this along with a Dollar General receipt that includes the purchase of four Suave products. The contest ends on July 9, 2006 and the winners will be announced on August 16, 2006.

More than $300,000 in scholarships and other prizes will be awarded by Dollar General and Suave. The grand prize winner will receive a $10,000 scholarship.
