Denine Torr Named YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee’s Academy for Women of Achievement Honoree

Dollar General is proud to announce Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) of Nashville & Middle Tennessee named Denine Torr as an honoree for its 31st Academy for Women of Achievement (AWA). Torr serves as Dollar General’s vice president of corporate social responsibility and philanthropy, as well as executive director of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. 

The YWCA’s Academy for Women of Achievement honors women who, through excellence and leadership, serve as role models for other women in making the Nashville community a more inclusive, informed, just, healthy and thriving place to live. The 2023 induction ceremony is currently scheduled for January 2023. Fellow honorees include Jean Ann Banker, Hannah Paramore Breen, Hon. Angelita Blackshear Dalton, Sherry Deutschmann, Mary Ann McCready and Sharon W. Reynolds. 

“Denine’s guidance of Dollar General’s corporate social responsibility and philanthropic efforts not only exemplifies our mission of Serving Others, but also showcases Denine’s passion for serving middle Tennessee,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s chief executive officer and chairman of the board of the Dollar General Literacy Foundation. “We are grateful to have Denine as part of the DG Family and appreciate the YWCA of Nashville & Middle Tennessee’s recognition of her impactful charitable work.”  

Torr also is chairperson of Tennessee Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation board of directors and serves on the board of directors for the American Indian College Fund and the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy.  

YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee has served women and families for 124 years and works to advance the quality of life for women of all ages, races, and faith. The organization’s programs and services help the women move from safety to self-sufficiency. YWCA exists to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.
