Celebrating 25 Years in Ardmore: A Highlight on Serving Others

Nov 26, 2019

Twenty five years ago in 1994, Dollar General opened its newest, 510,000 square-foot facility distribution center in Ardmore, Oklahoma.  Ardmore’s grand opening was the Company’s second distribution hub to open with Dollar General’s first distribution center having opened 35 years earlier in Scottsville, Kentucky in 1959.

Since November 1994, the Ardmore Distribution Center continues to be instrumental in serving our stores and customers.  Today, Ardmore proudly employs more than 600 employees, supplies product to approximately 1,100 stores across the Midwest and southwest United States and supports the DG Private Fleet network.

As Ardmore celebrates its silver anniversary this November, Dollar General is grateful for the support from the community during the past 25 years and looks forward to another 25 great years!

Founders Club Celebration

As Ardmore celebrates its silver anniversary this year, several employees are dually celebrating their own work anniversaries.   Employees who began working at the Ardmore distribution center in 1994 and continue to be part of the Dollar General family today are affectionately referred to as being members of the Founders Club.  In November, Dollar General celebrated 17 Founders Club employees and their 25th anniversaries!

Serving Others

Additionally, the Ardmore distribution center continually demonstrates the Company’s mission of Serving Others to the community. In fact, when the Dollar General Literacy Foundation began groundbreaking, collaborative work with national literacy partners in 2012, Ardmore was a natural location to invest in local literacy and education initiatives.  With support from national literacy experts, local business leaders, community partners and educational programs already serving the city, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation expanded and strengthened literacy services in Ardmore.

Soon, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation began heavily investing in programs and creating new ones along the way to ensure that all students, regardless of age or ability, had a program to meet their needs. This work continues today and more students are being served than ever before.

And for more than seven years, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation has reached more than 40,000 students and awarded nearly 80 grants and $3.4 million to literacy programs serving the Ardmore community. With the success and positive reception of the Ardmore literacy program in mind, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation then piloted the program in additional Dollar General Distribution Center communities to expand the reach and impact of literacy and education.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation is proud to invest in programs helping students in Ardmore take their next steps on their path to a brighter future.
