A Handful of Strawberries for National Strawberry Month

May 09, 2017

May is a peak harvest time for strawberries, which means, it’s also time to celebrate National Strawberry Month! There are numerous ways to enjoy the delicious fruit, and Dollar General has everything customers need to prepare their favorite strawberry recipes along with a few tips to try!

Fresh out of the garden is one of the best ways to eat a strawberry. Remove the tops, rinse and enjoy each crisp bite. For a lower calorie dessert alternative, grab a container of whipped cream and add a dollop or two to the bowl of berries.

Capri Sun Fruit Smoothie for breakfast loaded with fresh strawberries provides healthy nutrients. Add a few chopped berries as a garnish then freeze the rest for future morning smoothies.

For the sweet tooth, it’s hard to beat eating a vine-ripened strawberry dipped in chocolate. Melt a few bars of chocolate on low heat and dip away! Make sure to leave the stems intact for optimal dipping results.

Too many strawberries? Use a family secret recipe or search online to cook a batch of strawberry jam or preserves. Dollar General also offers affordable canning supplies so there’s no reason biscuits should be bare after strawberry season.
